Character Creation
Choose your race, class, and attributes to build your character.
Character creation in a20n is narrative-driven, not menu-based. A guided prologue shapes your character through the choices you make — your race, your inclinations, and your response to the world around you all feed into who you become.
Races
Nine playable races are available, drawn from the SRD 5.1. Each has unique racial traits and ability score bonuses:
- Human — Versatile and adaptable. Bonus to all attributes.
- Elf — Graceful and long-lived. Bonus to Finesse. Darkvision, trance instead of sleep.
- Dwarf — Sturdy and resilient. Bonus to Might. Darkvision, poison resistance.
- Halfling — Small but lucky. Bonus to Finesse. Can reroll natural 1s.
- Gnome — Curious and inventive. Bonus to Intellect. Advantage on mental saves against magic.
- Half-Elf — Charismatic and flexible. Bonus to Will plus two attributes of choice.
- Half-Orc — Fierce and enduring. Bonus to Might. Savage Attacks, Relentless Endurance.
- Dragonborn — Proud and powerful. Bonus to Might. Breath weapon based on draconic ancestry.
- Tiefling — Infernal heritage. Bonus to Will. Fire resistance, innate spellcasting.
Six Attributes
a20n uses six core attributes that govern everything from combat to social interactions:
- Might — Raw physical power. Melee damage, carrying capacity, feats of strength.
- Finesse — Agility and reflexes. Armor class, initiative, ranged attacks, stealth.
- Intellect — Mental acuity and knowledge. Spell power for Arcanists, investigation, lore recall.
- Will — Personality and determination. Social influence, mental resistance, healing power.
- Ingenuity — Creativity and technical aptitude. Gadget effectiveness, trap-making, improvisation.
- Perception — Awareness and intuition. Spotting hidden things, reading people, reacting to ambushes.
Classes
Six classes split across the two paradigms of the Duality:
Arcane
- Arcanist — Versatile spellcaster drawing power from the Weave
- Wardkeeper — Defensive specialist wielding barriers and protective magic
- Spellblade — Melee and magic hybrid channeling arcane energy through weapons
Technological
- Artificer — Inventor deploying gadgets, turrets, and drones
- Vanguard — Heavily armored frontline fighter with exoskeletal enhancements
- Operative — Stealth and precision specialist with cloaking tech and electronic warfare
For full class details, see Classes.
The Alignment Spectrum
a20n does not use traditional good-vs-evil alignment. Instead, your character exists on a spectrum between two philosophical forces:
- Ascension — The pursuit of transcendence. Power, knowledge, and evolution at the cost of empathy and connection.
- Redemption — The pursuit of restoration. Sacrifice, compassion, and service for the greater good.
Your position on this spectrum is fluid throughout gameplay, shaped by every decision you make. But be warned: at a certain point in the story, you will face a permanent, irreversible choice that locks your path. Choose carefully.
